    Casting Crowns Lifesong

…through an old set of Altec Lansing ACS33 computer speakers. I’m surprised, when I listen to these, just how bad the more recent 2.1 computer speaker configurations really sound. Paltry wattage ratings are common, and some newer models don’t even bother with a crossover for the subwoofer driver, making it sound like mud. While these older ACS33 aren’t anything close to my main stereo system in terms of quality or quantity, they do have plenty of power and lots of features that are quite thoughtful, like an actual active lowpass on the subwoofer driver. Think of an older Bose Acoustimass system, but without the dynamic range.

I miss my stereo with H/K receiver and AV12 subwoofer.

    Good song.

I’m currently listening to some Postal Service.

Some 2.1 PC speakers are good these days.

Klipsch Promedia Ultra 2.0 is a very good 2.0 set.

    Klipsch iFi for iPod
    Altec Lansing MX5021
    Altec Lansing FX6021
    Creative Megaworks 250D
    Edifier S2.1D
    are really good 2.1 sets.

I agree, some modern PC speakers are quite impressive. I wish Klipsch would put out a version of their iFi 2.1 channel speaker set for the PC, like perhaps “ProMedia Extreme” or something, using the RSX satellites, and the iFi’s subwoofer.

The Promedia Extreme would have the PMU 5.1 subwoofer 😉

That big sub with two RSX5 yeah that would be good.

You can easily do that. Buy a refurbished Klipsch PM Ultra 5.1 set or a refurbished iFi set and replace the sats with any RSX…

What, did people stop listening to music all of a sudden?

    Korn – Twisted Transistor

    Primus – Pork Soda

Marshall Tucker Band on M-Audio studio monitors!

    Computer speakers on steroids 😆

JBL Encounter in Chinese-imitation Ferrari Red lol …. a failure in sampling if I say so myself. They do sound nice though. Sadly I can’t crank the music in the jungle here 🙁

    ballasnt on #1784

Right now I’m listening to “Cats in the Cradle” by Harry Chapin.

    dB on #1785

John Klemmer – Cry. Beautifull solo sax riffs – even if a little over mixed.

    R. Buszka on #1786

Gordon Goodwin’s Big Phat Band, “A Few Good Men”. Overmixed and compressed but still pretty good.

    Don Dorsey – BachBusters – 1985 Telark.

    My own 32-320kbps VBR mp3 EAC/LAME UberRip.

It may not be bit perfect like FLAC but it takes less than 1/4 the space on my LAN music mirror array for over 95% of the quality.
