how much power does the AV12 need?

when will these new drivers be out?

right now I’m trying to decide what will sound better:
    AE AV12 w/ 300 watts @ 4 ohms
    Soundslpinter Rl-p12 w/ 500 watts @2 ohms.

I’ve heard the Rl-p has unbeatable SQ, and still manages to get loud.

SPL would be ~ 115 dB SPL for the Rlp12 @ 500 watts (plus cabin gain).

SPL would be ~ 113 dB SPL for the AV12 @ 300 watts (plus cabin gain).

So if you are willing to pay the extra $94 then you will get 2 dB more from the Rlp12. I takes about 3 dB to make a noticeable difference (3 dB more sounds ~ 30% louder).

As far as SQ goes I could not compare the two.

If you want to compare any drivers just take thier sensitivity rating (1w @ 1m) and add 25 dB to it for its output @ 300 W, or add 27 dB to it for its output @ 500 W. Because the difference between 1 W and 300 W is 25 dB, and the difference between 1 W and 500 W is 27 dB:

    25 dB = 10 * log (300/1): 27 dB = 10 * log (500/1)
