    Hi all.
Did not post much here, but still watch posts from time to time.
I have a pair of Open Baffle Dipole subwoofers powered by ss plate amplifier (GR Research SA-1 now discontinued)
the drivers are Eminence Acoustinator 12″ two per side and it’s the best subwoofers of the past 45 years that I’ve owned and I have owned a lot…
One day I would like the same set up but with two per side AE speakers IB12.
Anyone have such a set up?

I’m using IB15s in an OB, they work wonderfully down to 20hz with minimal EQ. But according to John, Dipole 15 drivers may be a better choice due to even lower distortion above 100hz. One day when the budget allows…

Compared to your drivers, IB12’s will have more headroom, deeper bass, and less distortion due to AE’s better motor design.

Hi Guy 13, where do I know you from? your SN is very familiar.

The Acoustinator 12″ is really designed as a driver for instruments and not subwoofer use. The driver has very little Xmax, only 3.9mm so it cannot move a lot of air to get loud cleanly. While you may enjoy this subwoofer, there are far better options. The IB12 is an option although it is not the best option for open baffle use. The Dipole series are designed specifically for open baffle use. The underhung motor gives much more linearity to the Bl curve within Xmax limits of the driver. It is a reason the Dipole woofers are used for the low end in speakers like the Kyron Audio Kronos that are getting such great reviews.

    Hi John,
I only post on three forums: here, Decware and Audio Circle, at AC I have more than 4,500 posts.
(I am a French Canadian from Montreal, Quebec, but I’ve been living in Vietnam for the past 20 years.
I know that the AE Dipole 12 are far better than my Eminence Acoustinator,
but at the time of purchase that’s only what I could afford, I paid 25 USD each,
can’t really beat that and even if they have their limitations, for now,
I am happy with them, I don’t listen at discotheque level.
    Thanks for your comments.

    Hi John,
do you remember where you know me from?
May I ask where you live?
In what kind of field of work you are?
That might help to see if we know each other from somewhere else.

    but from Montreal, Quebec, Canada.

Hi Guy13, sent you a PM.

If you are looking for a few examples, there are some recently on our facebook page. http://www.facebook.com/aespeakers One for 2x Dipole10 was just posted. If you are looking for other examples, the Kyron Audio Kronos was recently given best speaker over $20,000 by Sound+Image. This uses 2x Dipole12 per channel.

The Lotus Group Granada had similar best in show awards a few years before.

That should give you some inspiration for the future. 🙂
